Serene Ubud

Even though Bali is mostly popular for its beaches and high waves, surfing and beach clubs, there is one place in Bali that has quite a different appeal. Situated at the hills, serene Ubud catches the fancy of many wanderlusts. In fact, Ubud is one of my favorite places in Bali as well.

The best part of Ubud is its tranquility. With mysterious jungles and breathtaking waterfalls, Ubud spelled a magic on me. In fact, even after my stay at Ubud for 3 days, I wasn’t satisfied. We kept coming to Ubud from the other parts of Bali too to seek a little more adventure.

If you are an adventure lover and keen to explore Bali, please don’t just stick to surfing at Canggu and enjoying the views at Ungasan, you must visit Ubud. As I already discussed, being an Indian, I find a lot of similarities with Bali’s culture and Indian culture. Like India, Ubud is a great place for yoga lovers. The vibe is pristine yet adventurous. Our stay at the hotel Chapung Se Bali was also the reflection of the same. The resort made us feel like we were at a hut in the middle of the jungle. Our two adjacent pool villas built in a hut concept ensured we had a good family time in Ubud. We had quite an adventurous time with the view of the hill & jungle in front of us from our villas. Once we were out of our villas, we loved walking through the rice paddies within the hotel premise.

In our first outing in Ubud, we spent quality time trying out many adventure sports and swinging over the jungle. Thanks to Bali Swing for having an array of adventure activities to offer us. The team of Bali Swing is so helpful and encouraging that we didn’t even realize how time flew! The locals there try to make you understand so many new things and they are so eager to make you try out their cuisines. The cute little team of Bali Swing is really warm and hospitable. While swinging from the top of the hill with the deep dark jungle and waterfall beneath, we clearly felt how mysterious the visit to waterfalls were going to be in the coming days!

Our 2nd day was about exploring waterfalls. As you know me, I was really not meant to be satisfied with just one waterfall visit. But I knew if I really wanted to cherish my time at the waterfall, I would need to keep enough time in my hand too. So, keeping that in my mind, I calculated that visiting 2-3 waterfalls in a day would only be possible if they were nearby. However, after visiting the first place and after getting down to the waterfall from the hill where the car stops, we realized, visiting more than one waterfall in a day is difficult and visiting 2-3 waterfalls on the same day is far from reality. Now, you know the reason why we kept coming back to Ubud from the other parts of Bali too.

We visited about 6 waterfalls in Bali and we were still not tired of it. Our car driver inquisitively asked us if we were particularly researching on waterfalls. However, apart from the waterfalls, there are many beautiful Hindu temples in Ubud.

As I said, Bali’s culture is pretty similar to Indian culture, many beautiful temples are found there too. Ulun Danu Temple is one of the most famous temples in Bali and a tourist hotspot. We loved our visit to rice terraces too. Like the Indians, Bali is famous for rice agriculture. With Ubud being above sea level, blessed with moderate temperature and adequate rainfall, it is the one of the best places for agriculture to them. You would realize it when you visit rice terraces. They create horizontal steps along the hills to grow crops and it looks wonderful from the top of the hill.

Monkey Forest is also quite popular in Ubud. All thanks to the cheeky monkeys. But be careful with them because they have the appetite of being a photographer in themselves and they are quite famous for running away with the cameras.

I saw many of the tourists were making the monkeys sit on their head. However, before I could even think about it, I saw someone who made a monkey stand on his shoulders and was attempting for the monkey to dance. The monkey wasn’t in the right mood to do so and he slapped him hard. So, obviously, I didn’t think about it any further.

After our visit to waterfalls and stepping up and down and walking the whole the Monkey Forest, we started feeling really hungry and we visited The Habitat in Ubud which is a few steps away from Monkey Forest. It’s a café style restaurant and we were quite surprised to see a long menu of Habitat compared to the usual cafes. We started with delicious smoothies to regain energy. We not only had snacks but also had a full meal. All thanks to their wide choices of mouthwatering cuisines. We tried both vegetarian and non-vegetarian cuisines and we loved how they present the international flavors with a Bali twist.

My visit to serene Ubud was memorable for every little thing that happened there. Even while remembering it all and writing it down, my heart is jumping inside to tell me that I can’t wait to visit there again.

Lots of love,
